2009 Jackpot  $40,440

The 2009 Homer Jackpot Halibut Derby is officially over and our June angler is the winner. The barn-door halibut is worth $40,440. Remember anglers, Homer has a two fish per day per person halibut catch limit!!!

After three long months, our June first place winner wins the 2009 Homer Jackpot Halibut Derby. Thomas Youngblood of Homer, AK brought in a monster barn-door halibut weighing 354.6 lbs. Thomas was fishing with In-2-Fishin Charters on the "Sweet-T" with Captain Ron Hurley. Thomas was in awe of catching the big one, saying it was quite an adventure. It took him 20 minutes to bring her in and yes he had a derby ticket!!. The barn-door halibut is worth $40,440. Not bad for a day of fishing!!
Congratulations to both Thomas and Ron.

A grand total of 16,176 derby tickets were sold during May 1 through September 30. That is amazing!!!! Big Thanks to everyone who made this year's derby a huge success! See you all in the 2010 Homer Jackpot Halibut Derby!
 

Our leader in the lady angler category for September - Chong Daughtry of The Colony, TX,  was fishing with Bob's Trophy Charters on the "Huntress" with Capt. Josh Brooks - opted to take her winnings for second place, leaving the lady angler category open until the very last day of fishing for the Derby. Tauna Allen of Enumclaw, WA fishing with Captain Scott's Sportfishing on the "Mako" with Capt. Scott Glosser brought in a winner just under the wire. Congratulations to both these ladies!

The first tagged fish for the month of August  has been caught by Ted Robinett of Homer, AK. Fish, although small, carried a great pay check for Ted - $1,000. Fish was sponsored by Land's End Resort and was caught by Ted on August 2nd aboard a private boat with Captain Bob Russell. The second tagged fish for the month of August has been caught by Cori Freischlag of Colorado Springs, CO. This tagged fish worth $5000 was sponsored by Smokey Bay Air and was caught on August 8th aboard a private boat with Captain Darin Applebury. That brings us up to a total of TEN tagged fish caught during the 2009 Derby

 

 

We have our winner of the first Catch a Lefty prize. There is a one in 20,000 chance to catch a Lefty and Yako "Jack" Boru of Fosston, MN did it. Jack was fishing with Captain B's Alaskan C's Adventures aboard the "Ashtikan" with Captain Bryan Bondioli on August 29th when he hooked the Lefty. Jack was here visiting his sister and wanted to go fishing and landed his prize halibut. Congratulations to you Jack!!!

 

 

 


The Homer Jackpot Halibut Derby is an annual event, running from May 1 to September 30 each year. Tickets are $10.
