2009 Homer Jackpot Halibut Derby
is officially here and we have our first halibut of the season!!
Remember anglers, Homer has a two fish per day per person halibut catch
limit!!! There is a new leader in the Derby - Thomas Youngblood of Homer, AK brought in a monster barn-door halibut weighing 354.6 lbs. Thomas was fishing with In-2-Fishin Charters on the "Sweet-T" with Captain Ron Hurley. Thomas was in awe of catching the big one, saying it was quite an adventure. It took him 20 minutes to bring her in and yes he had a derby ticket!!. Congratulations Thomas - now you have to wait for three long months to see if you keep the lead. What a way to get the excitement going again!
And another $500 tagged fish has been caught by Krystal McDonald of Homer, AK. Tagged fish was caught on the Sea Flight, Sea Flight Charters with Captain Bruce Elkins. And a third $500 tagged fish has been caught by Brad Wagner of Madison, WI. Tagged fish was caught on the Tuff Stuff, Bob's Trophy Charters with Captain Brad Gibb. The winner of the May Released Fish drawing is Bob Nollar of Homer, AK.
